How do I become a CQI IRCA Certified Auditor or Lead Auditor?

Becoming a CQI IRCA Registered Auditor is a two step process.

Step 1: Complete the mandatory CQI IRCA Certified Lead Auditor Course

Step 2: Complete the audit experience

Let us explore each step in detail:-

Step 1: Complete the mandatory CQI IRCA Certified Course such as QMS, OHSMS and EMS Lead Auditor Training Course.

If you wish to apply for Auditor, Lead Auditor or Principal Auditor status, you must mandatorily attend an IRCA Certified Lead Auditor course or a relevant IRCA Certified Auditor/Lead Auditor conversion course (if you are an Auditor/Lead Auditor in another scheme).

It is very important that you attend this course from a CQI IRCA Approved Training Partner and the course is CQI IRCA certified. If you attend this course with an unapproved training provider or a course not certified by the IRCA, your training is not valid for the auditor grade membership.

If you wish to apply for Internal Auditor status, you must complete the Internal Auditor training course, but keep in mind, if you attend the internal auditor training course, you are not eligible to apply for auditor and lead auditor grade membership. However, if you attend the lead auditor course, you can apply for any auditor grade membership level including internal auditor. As such, we always advise our learners to take the Lead Auditor course such as QMS, OHSMS or EMS Lead Auditor Training Courses.

Once you complete the training, you will have a maximum of 5 years to complete step 2.

Step 2: Complete the audit experience

Let’s say you would like to apply for Lead Auditor Auditor in ISO 9001 (Quality Management System) Certification Scheme and have completed step 1. You should now complete the audit experience.

Lead Auditor Grade membership Audit Experience requirements:

1) You have successfully completed a minimum of four management system audits which:

a) Covers all elements of the audit cycle
b) A minimum of 20 days of audit (you can accumulate this over several audits)
c) Include a minimum of 15 days on site.
Note: If you wish to apply for QMS Auditor status, the above requirements will suffice. If you wish to apply for Lead Auditor status, you now need to satisfy the below requirement as well in addition to the auditor status.
d) Conducted three full management system audits as leader of an audit team,
e) A minimum of 15 days in total (as leader of an audit team)
f) Include a minimum of 10 days on site.

IRCA has implemented an online application system. You can login to www.quality.org and complete the application with required information such as audit log and training records.
